The Tain

It is amazing that this whole story is around one woman's need to have as much or more than her husband. Just because he had a big bull that she didn't have, she had to go out and find one that was its equal. First, why didn't she just get rid of the bull that her husband had? She could have made him give it up as a present to someone, or she could have it killed. Instead she offers a sum of money to borrow another bull. Why would she want to borrow a bull to equal what her husband had and wouldn't have to give up? Medb started the whole thing and her husband helped. Why would he do that? Medb is one weird person, but she must have been very intelligent in order to get all these people to do this for her.

The Iliad

After reading the epic poem I wonder about the character's actions concerning the interaction with the gods. Many of the plots and battles were the direct result of the interference of the gods. If the gods were not involved, would the Trojan war have taken place? I think it would have, but would not have lasted nearly as long. It was the interference of Zeus, Apollo, Athena, and Hera (to name a few) who turned the tide of the war a couple of times. If you take them out, then the fighting would have stayed one sided rather than switching so overwhelmingly to another side and back.

Mahabharata

There are so many things that go in the story. There are so many twists and turns that don't seem to be connected. The land is prosperous, but still there is desire for war. The last thing that the son wants to do is share his land with his cousins. War breaks out and Karna has the chance to end it before it started when he was approached by Krsna. Was his decision right, according to Dharma?
